Telecommuting360 is an organization of telecommuters, providers and companies providing remote workforce opportunities to their employees. We are dedicated to bringing the right resources and people together to solve the ongoing issues surrounding telecommuting and working from home.

Why we exist / vision

Organizations typically measure success by reviewing the number of telecommuters, employee retention and dollars saved over a period of time. It is difficult, however, to measure the level or quality of success without a benchmark and baseline to measure against.

At this time in history, employees are being asked to work longer hours and are forced to pay high energy costs for the right to go to work. Companies at the same time are continually asked to do more with less.

Ongoing regulations surrounding security and privacy as well as employment laws and how they pertain to organizations providing work at home programs are not well understood and complex.

We exist to help organizations navigate the difficult course that will lead to a more efficient and healthier work experience. 

Mission

Our mission is to deliver resources and standards to the telecommuting industry so that a high rate of success can be obtained by our members in an easy and understandable fashion and that the success can be measured and thus improved upon over time.

History

Founded originally in 1997 as a consulting group, Telecommuting360 has undergone many changes. During the earlier years, telecommuting was only provided to key employees in companies that could afford it. Networking costs, the low cost of fuel and the inefficiencies of computing environments led to few ongoing telecommuting initiatives. Working from home was primarily phone base workers. As Energy became more expensive companies looked for innovative ways to allow employees to work remotely. Several vendors including Novell, Microsoft and Citrix started selling technology to allow the remote worker access to corporate networks and many add on technologies were created specifically to improve the quality of the user experience.

After the Year 2000 many companies refocused their efforts on delivering a consistent user experience for their home based workers. The rise of the Internet and lower cost telephony led to innovations in telecommuting, including higher security standards, Voice over IP phone systems and the Hosted Provider model that allows companies to “rent” space on shared infrastructure to give the home and remote worker the same experience as being in he office.

Today Telecommuting360 offers consulting services, an online community for telecommuters and resources for all types of remote workers and companies, in an effort to ensure that all types of organizations can benefit from the business model that allows their employees a quality of life that might not be available otherwise.
